Baby And Infant Eczema

Baby or infant eczema is common in children and adolescents, and depend mostly on innate characteristics of the skin. This makes the skin react in a special way to external and internal influences. People with these genetics has a very easily irritated skin and an increased tendency to develop asthma and hay fever. This is known as baby eczema, or atopic eczema. The atopic eczema may recur in periods and intense itching might occur. Approximately 15-20% of all children have or have had atopica eczema. Most children and young people are asymptomatic while growing up. Eczema predisposition is, however, still there and may later cause hand eczema.

Adverse Factors

  • Contact with irritating or dehydrating substances such as wool, soap, water
  • Climatic factors such as cold or dry air
  • Sweat, too much clothing
  • Food such as egg, milk, citrus fruits, etc.
  • Infections, bacteria, fungi, viruses
  • Mite, housing dust
  • Furry animals
  • Stress

Symptoms

Baby eczema manifests itself most often as blushing, sometimes moist, areas of the skin. More rarely, only pale spots. Itching is the most prominent symptom. Appearance of the eczema is altered by scratching or infection. The skin is usually very dry.
